Launching the Lucid Air

www.lucidmotors.com

I was one of the first designers to join Lucid’s brand team in late 2019. Immediately I was involved heavily in Lucid’s debut launch event which took place in 09/09 2020. I took part in all of the motion work, from creating and animating infographics, title cards, to supporting 3D animation production. The launch film can be watched here.

My role as Senior Motion Designer at Lucid involved directing 2D/3D animations used in their films, UX/UI animation support, creating social media content, and managing production artists and vendors. My time at Lucid has taught me how to keep up with tight timelines while maintaining the quality and integrity the brand represents.

Brand identity in motion

Lucid has several product lines, each with their unique area of focus and dedicated branding. When creating motion branding for each lineup, it was important to maintain cohesiveness between them while giving each mark their individual personality. I created all of Lucid’s current brand mark animations.

Sapphire is Lucid’s sports edition. Each line of vehicle has its own Sapphire edition,
differentiated by their deep blue exterior.

Gravity is Lucid’s latest luxury SUV product line with unrivaled battery performance and aerodynamics.

TECH TALKS

Lucid released a YouTube series called Tech Talks that dives deep into Lucid’s undeniable technology. Each episode, the leading expert of a specific topic regarding the Lucid Air breaks down the technology and demonstrates the incredible intricacy to Lucid’s vehicle designs. Watch an episode here.

For Tech Talks, I made numerous animated infographics that can be found throughout each episode. I also built a dynamic title sequence that can adapt to each topic. This is the sequence for the Wunderbox episode.

The Lucid user experience

Lucid puts a huge emphasis on user experience. Each of the 4 screens in the Lucid Air has unique form factors, separate layouts, yet are all meant to work together cohesively and can effectively respond to the demands of driving out in the world. To showcase the UI through animation, 2D UI graphics need to be animated and implemented into 3D scenes. In these animations, accuracy of the UI as well as the materials used in the car model is utmost important.

An animation I created highlighting upcoming feature updates in Lucid UX 2.0. This effort involved sourcing the correct UI designs from the UX team, prepping Figma files for animation, and designing the 3D camera work to best showcase the updates.
