Chimimōryō
魑 · 魅 · 魍 · 魎
Monsters of the Mountains; Monsters of the Rivers
Chimimōryō was my final thesis project at the Academy of Art University. The concept originated from a triptych print project I was working on for Lightform. Around this time, I was starting to feel comfortable with Cinema 4D, and I wanted to see how far I could push myself into the organic and emotional through 3D.
From pen to paper to 2D to 3D

I made a conscious effort to start drafting with pen on paper so that the forms I come up with would maintain a hand-drawn quality.

To create a triptych print, I had the opportunity to first explore color through bringing the sketches into digital illustration.

Once the form design and color were decided, I moved on to interpreting the forms in 3D.
